Thrifty Czechs. Already 58 % has experience of shopping in a foreign e-shop.

They are attracted by the lower price

Already 58 % Czechs have personal experience of buying goods in a foreign e-shop, and 22 % of them even shop here regularly. This follows from research by the consulting company Acomware on a sample of 1,016 respondents. Amazon and AliExpress are both the most famous foreign e-shops in our country. eBay is a close third.

The reason why Czechs increasingly turn to abroad for their purchases is the lower price and wider range of goods. "For 78 % customers, the primary motive is the fact that they often buy goods here cheaper than in domestic e-shops. In addition to economy, we are also motivated by practical reasons, for example, the fact that the goods in question or even the entire brand cannot be bought in the Czech Republic at all." explains David Vurma, CEO of the consulting company Acomware. 1,016 respondents participated in the research conducted for Acomware by the research agency Ipsos.

The best-known Czech sellers are AliExpress and Amazon, which are known by 70% of the % population. eBay is next with 63 %, Wish is fourth. "This is the result of a fairly aggressive campaign and discount system that we have been offering for some time. With its greater focus on fashion, Wish is also much more popular with women.” explains Vurma, according to whom the vast majority of orders from the Czech Republic go to the aforementioned four players.

In the future, however, the number of purchases from foreign e-shops will increase even more, as the driver of growth is the younger generation between the ages of 15-34. "With them, a quarter of people already admit that they shop regularly, and only about 20 % have no motivation to even try shopping abroad," explains Vurma. If Czechs have a cold attitude to shopping abroad, the most common reason is that they are content with the offer of domestic sellers. A third are worried about the misuse of payment data or possible complaints. For older people, the biggest obstacle is the language barrier.
